FAQ'S

At DEIA Living we are concious of the environment however also aware of them importance of sleep and the benefit of sleeping on clean sheets. Our rule of thumb is a weekly wash in order to maintain a clean and hygienic sleeping environment. Obviously if you have more of a tendency to perspire or if your 4 legged friends sleep on the bed with you then it´s recommended to wash a little more frequently than this. If you are time poor a trick is to buy an extra set of pillow cases and rotate them inbetween a full sheet wash. Pillowcases come into direct contact with your face and hair therefore should be washed more regularly than the rest of your sheets if you would like to push out the regular weekly wash.

DEIA Living´s approach to life is to make things and beautful and easy as possible so when it comes to ironing this is no different. While some enjoy the crisp, smooth look and feel of ironed sheets, others prefer the natural, slightly wrinkled appearance. Whether you should iron your cotton sheets therefore depends on your aesthetic and level of detail and presentation desired in your bedroom. There are no rights or wrongs as our sheets have been made to present beautifully both ironed or line dryed.

If you are contemplating purchasing cotton sheets depending on whether you need to iron them consider the type of cotton they are made from. For example some people appreciate the slightly wrinkled and relaxed appearance of percale sheets. Ironing percale sheets might result in a smoother look, but many individuals enjoy their natural, slightly crinkled appearance. Sateen sheets on the other hand have a luxurious, smooth, and lustrous feel due to their unique weave. Ironing sateen sheets can enhance their sheen and give them a more polished appearance, providing a sleek and elegant look. In saying this however ironing sheets can be a time consuming process especially for larger bed sizes. If you have a busy schedule , or simply don´t enjoy ironing, you might prefer to skip this step altogether or send your sheets out. For many however ironing is a therapeutic process, time to zone out and relax!

If you choose to iron your sheets, here are a few tips:
Use a medium to low heat setting on your iron to prevent scorching or damaging the fabric.
Iron your sheets while they are slightly damp for easier ironing and a smoother finish.

Whether you need an extra deep walled fitted sheet depends on the thickness of your mattress and any additional bedding items you use. Here are some factors to consider when deciding whether an extra deep fitted sheet is necessary:

Mattress Thickness: Measure the thickness of your mattress, including any mattress toppers or pads you use. Standard fitted sheets typically fit mattresses up to about 30-35cm (13-14 inches) in thickness. If your mattress, including toppers, exceeds this measurement, you may require an extra deep fitted sheet.

Mattress Type: Different types of mattresses can have varying depths. Pillow-top, Euro-top, or memory foam mattresses often have more depth due to the added padding on top. Innerspring mattresses may have a slimmer profile.

Mattress Protectors or Encasements: If you use mattress protectors or encasements, they can add extra depth to your mattress. Be sure to account for their thickness when selecting fitted sheets.

Topper Thickness: If you use mattress toppers for added comfort or support, consider their thickness when determining the appropriate fitted sheet size.

Personal Preference: Even if your mattress is not exceptionally thick, some people prefer using extra deep fitted sheets because they're easier to put on and tend to stay in place better. The additional fabric allows for a more secure fit.

Room for Tucking: If you like to tuck your fitted sheet tightly under the mattress, an extra deep fitted sheet can provide more fabric to work with, ensuring a snug fit.

It's important to choose fitted sheets that are compatible with your mattress size and depth to ensure a secure and comfortable fit. It's always a good idea to measure your mattress and consider any accessories you use to select the appropriate fitted sheet size and ensure a neat and secure fit. At DEIA Living we want to make the sheet changing experience as quick and easy as possible so we’ve made all our fitted sheets with an extra wall height measuring 40cm.

A king-sized pillowcase is designed to fit a king-sized pillow. King-sized pillows are larger and longer than standard or queen-sized pillows. They are typically about 250x90cm (20x36 inches).

A king-sized pillowcase will provide a proper fit for a king-sized pillow, keeping it covered and protected. Using the correct pillowcase size not only ensures the pillow looks neat and well-dressed but also makes it more comfortable to sleep on.

If you try to use a king-sized pillowcase on a smaller pillow, it may not fit properly, leading to excess fabric that can be cumbersome or untidy. Conversely, using a smaller pillowcase on a king-sized pillow will result in an improper fit, and the pillow may not be fully covered or protected. Aesthetically if you have a king size or super king size bed (180 or 200cm in width) a pair of king size pillow case tend to present better than the standard sized 50x75cm.

The thread count of cotton sheets is one of the factors that contribute to their quality, but it doesn't solely determine the overall quality or feel of the sheets. Thread count refers to the number of threads woven into one square centimetre of fabric (counting both lengthwise threads "the warp" and widthwise threads "the weft").

It's a common misconception that a higher thread count always means better quality sheets. While a higher thread count can indicate a denser weave and potentially a smoother, softer feel, it's not the sole indicator of sheet quality. Many excessively high thread counts (over 800-1000) are manufactuerd using multi-ply threads (multiple threads twisted together) to increase the count, which impacts breathability and comfort. Other factors, such as the quality of the cotton used, the weave, and the finishing process, also significantly impact the overall comfort and durability of the sheets. Keep in mind when purchasing your sheets that a lower thread count made of a better quality cotton will be a better long term purchase than a low quality high thread count sheet. Egyptian cotton is renowned for its exceptional quality, and offers several benefits that make it highly sought after particularly in the realm of bedding and linens. The key benefits lies in its long staple fibres, which are longer than those of most other cotton varieties. These longer fibres give several advantages, the most important being a soft and luxurious feel, durability resulting in less inclination to pilling and a fine texture which enhances it’s overall quality and appearance. The longer fibres also allow for a more breathable fabric which helps regulate body temperature and provides a comfortable sleep experience as well as absorbency which is great for bed and bath linen.

One of the downsides to some products sold as Egyptian cotton is that not all of them meet the high standards of what truly is Egyptian Cotton- in fact, they are far from it. If products are being sold at a “too good to be true”price generally it means it is exactly that. To ensure you're getting genuine Egyptian cotton it's advisable to purchase from reputable brands and look for certifications that guarantee the authenticity of the Egyptian cotton used in the products.

Cotton sateen and percale are two different types of cotton weaves used in bedding, each with its own distinct characteristics.

Cotton Sateen is made using a specific weaving technique that results in a fabric with a smooth, silky feel and a subtle sheen. It's woven using a satin weave structure, where multiple threads pass over one another, giving it a lustrous surface. Sateen is often made with a higher thread count and is known for its softness and luxurious drape. Due to its weave, it tends to be a bit warmer and heavier than percale.

Percale is a traditional, simple weave characterised by a crisper and cooler feel. It's woven with a symmetrical pattern—usually one thread over, one thread under—which creates a matte finish and a very tight weave. Percale is lighter and more breathable compared to sateen, making it a good choice for warmer climates or for those who prefer a cooler sleeping experience. It's often considered more durable and tends to have a slightly more textured feel compared to the smoothness of sateen.

In summary, the main differences between cotton sateen and percale lie in their weave structure, resulting in variations in texture, feel, and breathability. Sateen offers a smoother, silkier texture with a bit more warmth, while percale provides a crisper, cooler feel with a matte finish. Your personal preference for the feel and texture of the fabric, as well as your temperature preferences while sleeping, will guide your choice between the two.
